Migrating a Website From Drupal 8 to Drupal 9
October 20, 2022Assuming you would like a blog titled “Migrating a website from Drupal 8 to Drupal 9″…
The process of upgrading a Drupal 8 website to Drupal 9 is relatively straightforward. In most cases, you can simply follow the same steps you would use to upgrade from Drupal 8 to a newer minor version. However, there are a few key differences to be aware of:
– Drupal 9 requires PHP 7.3 or higher. If your website is currently running on an older version of PHP, you will need to upgrade before proceeding with the Drupal 9 upgrade.
– The biggest change in Drupal 9 is the removal of deprecated code. This means that if your website is using any code that has been deprecated in Drupal 8, it will no longer work in Drupal 9. You will need to update your codebase to use the new Drupal 9-compatible code before proceeding with the upgrade.
– Drupal 9 also includes a new default theme, called Claro. If your website is currently using a custom theme, you will need to update it to work with Claro.
With these key differences in mind, the process of upgrading a Drupal 8 website to Drupal 9 is as follows:
1. Update your website’s codebase to use Drupal 9-compatible code.
2. Update your website’s theme to work with the new default theme, Claro.
3. Upgrade your website’s PHP version to 7.3 or higher.
4. Follow the standard Drupal 8 upgrade process to upgrade your website to Drupal 9.
