About Cheeky Monkey Media

Who are we?

For almost a decade now - yes, the internet did exist back then - the monkeys have helped our clients solve more than 100 website, design, marketing, and search engine optimization challenges. Pretty cool, right?

Between us, we’ve spent more than 200,000 hours helping clients kick some serious monkey butt online. Of course, everyone here has loads of experience outside of Cheeky Monkey Media too.

We figure that between us we’ve spent

  • more than 100,000 hours working with Drupal

  • more than 8,000 hours working with Wordpress

  • more than 25,000 hours designing fun and informative graphics and layouts

  • more than 4,000 hours creating and executing innovating and engaging marketing strategies

  • more than 10,000 hours digging through the web to make sure people can find your stuff online.

    What are we about?

    • we believe designing and developing websites can be fun

    • we believe open, consistent, and curious communication make a successful website project

    • we believe our success is defined by our employee and client successes

    • we believe business can be fun

    • we believe in growing from our mistakes and building on our successes

    • we believe technology (a.k.a geek speak) can be translated into english

    • we believe utilizing your website can be an enjoyable experience not an exercise in frustration

    The ideal monkey world

The monkeys believe in a world where every organization has the power and confidence to share their identity online. Simply. Effectively. Thoughtfully.

    Our Plan for the Jungle

We’re supposed to have one, right? Originally, our Mission sounded like the usual corporate discourse. It went something like,  “We want to be the best at ..." and “We promise the best service to our customers because ...."

Now, that’s all true, but it’s not about us, it’s about you and your clients and stakeholders. Our real mission is to listen to you, to learn who you are, and where you want to go. In addition, we want to learn who your clients and stakeholder are and where they want to go. After all, our job is to help you reach your clients and stakeholders.

We guide organizations (like yours) - passionate about connecting with their communities - on a journey.  Together, we create an online identity that reveals your organization’s core and helps you connect with your target audience.

Cheeky Monkey Media offers talented industry professionals the opportunity to guest post on our blog.

    Rick Bjarnason
    Top Banana Peeler

Rick is oldest Drupal developer in the troop, and he has worked with web projects, CMS platforms, and client satisfaction for more than a decade.

    Gene Bernier
    Top Monkey Wrencher, Co-Founder

As the Top Monkey Wrencher, Gene can be considered the glue that holds the Adventure Team together, and the perfect foil to Rick’s insanity (that’s probably why they partnered in the first place).

    Treena Bjarnason
    Chief Experience Officer

If you have a position that requires extreme organization, unworldly people skills, intense multi-tasking ability, and the sanity (insanity?) to survive a high pressure environment, who would you h

    Ryan Smylski
    Senior Monkey Wrencher

We may be biased, but Ryan is exactly what people talk about when they use the term “savant”.

    Chris Arlidge
    Lead Pixel Flinger

Michelangelo was once quoted, “If you knew how much work went into it, you wouldn’t call it genius.” That sentiment seems to sum up Chris’ opinion of his own work.

    Justin Avdich
    Project Manager

What do Ernest Hemingway, Jimi Hendrix and Justin Avdich have in common? They’re autodidacts. That means “self-taught”.

    Amy Fink
    Space Monkey (Project Manager)

When it comes to managing the idiosyncrasies of genius developers and creative designers, there are times you wish you had a Rocket Scientist on your side. So, we went and got one.

    Denis Babineau
    Front-End Monkey/Senior "T'eemer"

Denis is one of the few monkeys working remotely – which may be a good thing, as we mock him continually about his French accent.

    Micah Joyner
    Senior Interface Developer

When Micah was just a young lad - with rockstar visions and dreams dancing around in his head - his mother implored him to look at a “backup career” just in case he didn’t make it as the next great

    John Lutz
    Senior Monkey Wrencher

It’s one thing to think you’ve got one of the best developers in North America on your team, it’s another to prove it.

    Dennis Powers
    Business Developer

They tell us that you can’t teach an old dog new tricks. When it comes to Dennis, there’s a pretty good chance the dog will be showing the kids a thing or two.

    Špela Grašič
    Gorilla Marketer

On first glance, we really thought that Spela was to be the “tamest” monkey in the zoo.

    Steph Woods
    SEO Consultant

When it comes to search engine optimization (SEO), pay-per-click (PPC) campaigns, and, really, anything analytics related, Steph's the monkey you need to talk to.

    Eric Larocque
    Business Development Orangutan

With a solid marketing and sales leadership background, Eric identifies new business opportunities for the squad.

    Alex Marshall

Alex is living proof that human beings are capable of consuming their body weight in Monster energy drinks.

    Keifer Rodway
    Howler Monkey/Business Development Coordinator

What’s the difference between a split-finger curve and a rising knuckler? We don’t know either, but we have Keifer to help us in that regard.

    Calvin Tyndall
    Hybrid Monkey Wrencher

With the recent political upheaval in Alberta, we thought it only prudent (and neighborly) to lend a hand and extend our team into the province.

    Monkey Security Officer

Of all the monkeys in the office, Rohan’s bark is easily scarier than his bite.

    Our friendly mascot.
