3 Tools Every Web Designer Should Know About
Hey there Monkeys! Have you ever been overwhelmed and confused by web design lingo? I know I have. I have sat there, eating my banana pudding and looking clueless when I heard words like “responsive design” and “media queries.” I mean is this stuff that I am supposed to know? Well, I did a little research in order to break some terms down. Even though I don’t need to know everything about web design, I don’t want to feel clueless about terms I hear all the time. Here goes nothing!
What is Responsive Web Design?
It’s really quite simple. Responsive Web Design (RWD) refers to developing a website that will “respond” or adapt to various devices. Think, iPhone, iPad, Androids and other devices. With all the different devices that are used day-to-day, you can see why this is important. Responsive Web Design doesn’t mean that the content will look identical on every device, but the content will be displayed the best it can on whatever device is used.
What are HTML5 and CSS3?
No, it’s not some type of medication you take when you have eaten too much banana and peanut butter sandwiches (That’s what I thought it was at first). Think of HTML5 as the foundation and structure of building a web site. It gives web browsers the blueprint on how to display the content of a website. CSS3 however is what makes your website special. This is what adds to the “looks” of your website and makes it look unique. These two “blocks” need to be together to be effective. Think of them as best friends.
What is CMS?
CMS stands for content management system. CMS has simplified web design in the past few years. You should not need to know how to code a website in order to manage one. A CMS gives you easy to use instructions on how to design and update your website. Some popular ones are WordPress and Drupal. Thank goodness for content management systems or else very few monkeys would actually be able to design and manage websites.
I hope this helps clear up any confusion and I am sure you feel smarter already! Have a great day!
