5 Reasons to Continue Your Education in Drupal Development
October 4, 2012 / Treena BjarnasonWorking as a Drupal Developer can be extremely rewarding. While working as a Drupal developer, you may have several chances to “continue your education.” If you have the chance to take an extra class, be mentored by someone, or attend a conference then that will make you an even better developer. Now, for the reasons you should continue your education, so to speak.
#1. Stay on Top
Hopefully, you have figured out by now that continuing education, does not necessarily mean spending years in college. When you attend a class that helps you grow as a developer, then you can stay on top of the game. Drupal is an ever-changing system that requires the ability of a person to stay on top of learning the system.
#2. Feel Connected
You have heard Cheeky say time and time again that the Drupal world is like one big community. When you feel educated about all that is happening in Drupal, then you feel connected with your team and the Drupal community. Feeling connected is an awesome reason to continue your education in Drupal development.
#3. More Confident
When you attend a developer conference, you have the ability to gain a lot of confidence. The more confidence you have, then the better you will be at your job. It’s truly amazing what confidence in your ability to do work can do. The more you know then truly the more you can grow. This is even true in Drupal Development.
#4. Networking
Attending a Drupal conference or event is a great way to network and meet other people. If you work as an independent developer, then you will appreciate the chance to meet with other developers. The bottom line is that you do not know who you will meet which may affect your career in the long run.
#5. It’s Just Fun
Getting out there and learning more about Drupal is just plain fun. When you dedicate your life to something, then it’s easy to get excited about the small things. Meeting new people, learning new things, and taking your Drupal knowledge to the next level is an exciting adventure that you don’t want to miss out on.
Some think that continuing education is not necessary and for some, it’s not. What’s exciting about continuing education for developers is that it doesn’t have to mean sitting in a boring class for hours. You can meet with friends and learn from each other. If you work on a team, then you have a lot to gain from that aspect as well. So, get out there and meet new people, learn new things, and you will soon be one of the best developers out there.
