Ever wish you could travel back through time?
Maybe there are things you would have done differently. Or, maybe you just want to see what things used to look like. Well, as nice as that would be, it’s just not possible… yet.
Just because we haven't invented a time machine, doesn't mean we can't see what the past used to look like. Thanks to the power of the internet, we can now look back in time!
Well, we can at least see what websites used to look like, which is still cool. Thanks to the Internet Archive Wayback Machine, we can see snapshots of over 484 billion web pages!
This is nice for developers, because if we need to jump into a new project to fix something, we can have an accurate picture of what it looked like before it was broken.
It’s also a fun tool that let’s you look back at different design iterations and see how much the internet has changed in just a few short years.
Take Cheeky Monkey Media for example, we have had several different design iterations over the years. We are now on our fourth major design and are always making changes to make our site better.
This iteration, we focused on improving:
1. User pathways (a.k.a the path to purchase): Are we making it easy for visitors to the websites to get where they need to go?
2. Search Engine Optimization: Are we crossing all of our t’s and dotting our i’s? Do we have too many graphics that make our site slow to respond? Have we included the right headings?
Click on one of the following links to take a trip back in time to see what our site used to look like before the recent move to Drupal 8 and se the comments below to let us know what you think. Is our website easier to navigate? If so, what do you feel is working well. If not, what would you change?
