So I have recently discovered that I LOVE Google docs. Once I figured out how to navigate through the system, which has taken me basically six months (sigh), I realized how handy it is to have all of this documentation to reference. I really enjoy the “sharing” feature of Google docs as well which is something I never thought I would say!

What a fantastic start to my day today. Being the resident newbie, I take a lot of flack from the boys in the office (did I mention that I am the only female? I drink a lot more now, just saying). Typically, when the monkey men mock me (go alliteration!), I go into tone deaf mode, but not this morning. I miiiiight have come to work WITHOUT my laptop. This tiny oopsy, small hiccup if you will, sent the boys into full “ape” mode. You would think that I came to work without an arm, leg or my floatie or something. Sigh.

I am completely covered in a “tech” rash since we last communicated. No matter how much I scratch and apply cream, I simply cannot stop the itch. I think I may be allergic to the lingo that is still flying around the office, and perhaps my chair... or maybe just sitting? What a strange thing to do all day. Maybe I should just recline on my floatie.

Anyone who knows me well, understands that I have a large, paranoia style fear of water. Lakes, rivers, oceans, pools and waterfalls just to name a few. The first day I walked through the doors of Cheeky Monkey, I realized one very real, very terrifying fact. I was about to dive head first into the biggest pool I had ever encountered. The tech pool. And I didn’t even have a floatie.

In the bustling of trying to adapt content to various devices, companies have forgotten an important aspect: the reader. Nowadays there is so much emphasis on fitting content on mobile devices, tablets, desktops that typography has been undermined.

It’s time to get back to the basics and design for the reader, first and foremost.

Let’s face it; life is just not easy when you are an adult. You get up, go to work, get the kids ready, come home, make dinner, go to bed and then start the whole day over again. Of course, everyone has their different agendas, but the bottom line is that life can just be plain exhausting. After all that running, it’s important to just refresh, recoup and regroup. As a team of web developers, it’s important that we take time off as well. You may need time off from web development, web design, content writing or just a little time off everything.

What is a blog? In a short definition a blog is a resource for your readers. There are millions of blogs out there but how many of them are actually effective. When you choose to write a blog it’s important to blog effectively. You know…make sure what you are blogging actually makes sense and is a valued part of the online blogging world. A great man once said that “quality over quantity is better any day.” This is so true in the blogging world because your words need to have meaning and your blogging topic needs to speak to your audience.

Everybody loves pretty graphics. After all there is nothing better then shiny new icons, pretty widgets, or a clever Mascot (ya like Brian our Top Chimp), right? WRONG!
