The speed of light has nothing on the speed of technology. Lately, whenever I am having a conversation with someone outside of our industry, most of my time is spent explaining all the acronyms I am using.

I think that most web development companies have a tendency to speak “geek” too much, and with the release of Drupal 8, we are once again moving into a market where we will be explaining technology to most of our clients (and potential clients).

The internet is in a constant state of change, so I suggest you keep up. Everyday there is new code pushed up, new modules, patches and security releases.

Think of your website like a new sports car. Every six months you're supposed to bring it in for an oil change or tune up. Your website is much the same, and every so often, you're going to need to update some modules or apply a security patch.

Be warned! Google is about to shake things up on you, and you may not like it.

Starting April 21st 2015, the mobile readiness of your site is going to affect your search engine rankings. Sadly, many are not taking this seriously. Even though Google has been very clear on their intentions.

Starting April 21, we will be expanding our use of mobile-friendliness as a ranking signal.

And if that is not enough. Members of their team have been quoted as saying that this new mobile-friendly algorithm will have more of an impact than Penguin and Panda.

I can hardly believe that we are through the first quarter of 2015 already. It is crazy how time really does fly when you are having fun!

Cheeky Monkey Media is off to a great start for the year. Sales have been brisk, requests are sky high and the dev team is firing on all cylinders. In an effort to keep you up to date, I thought I would share a few thoughts:

What is the plan for the Monkeys?

This is always a tough one to answer. In short, we want to be the best development shop that we can be. I know that sounds like a cop out, so I will elaborate.

Project Management tools are a necessary, and often an evil, part of our business. With so many choices and so many things to consider, how does one choose the best, most effective one? One of my favourite forums is Basecamp. It is incredibly simple to use, and an efficient way to keep all communications, files and downloads between the client and your company in one convenient place.

grateful - warmly or deeply appreciative of kindness or benefits received; thankful
gratitude - the quality or feeling of being grateful or thankful

2014 was a year of growth, challenges, and humbling experiences which filled me with a lot of gratitude for the opportunities to grow both personally and as a partner of Cheeky Monkey Media.

When our company is sponsoring a conference, it takes months of work to prepare for in regards to finding swag to represent our company, and how we plan on representing ourselves from our conference space.

    Ever hear of Conversion Planning?

As web professionals, we often tell clients time and time again to have an actual goal for the website. Be sure to have an idea of what the desired end result will be, and then work from there.

Of course, much like the proverbial dead horse, this concept gets beaten over and over again. It’s not that we web folk are maniacally obsessed with goal setting and forecasting. It’s more due to the fact that – despite working in a highly technical field – many a time, we just don’t know where to start when it comes to solving your web issue.
